Can I attach Urestone panels directly to studs?

Yes. URESTONE faux stone, faux brick, and faux wood panels can be fastened directly to wood or metal studs for many interior applications. For exterior walls, best practice is to install over sheathing and a weather-resistive barrier, but direct-to-stud installs are possible on non-shear areas (for example, framed chases) with proper blocking and fastening. We also have glue plates available for purchase to support key interlocking sections on studwall applications.

Details

  • Framing: 16 in on-center is typical; add horizontal blocking and/or glue plates (12–16 in vertical spacing) to create solid fastening fields, especially on curves or tall runs

  • Exterior best practice: sheathing + water-resistant barrier + flashing at roofs, doors, windows, and terminations. Do not rely on panels for shear or structural bracing

  • Wet areas: use cement board or an approved waterproof backer over studs in showers and similar zones before panel install

  • Fasteners: corrosion-resistant screws for wood; self-drilling framing screws for metal. Do not over-tighten. Pre-drill near edges

  • Adhesive: run construction adhesive beads along each stud (and blocking) for added bond; use screws as the primary mechanical attachment

  • Layout: snap level lines, stagger seams, and align interlocking edges. Use keyless corners, narrow corners, and end caps for clean transitions

  • Expansion and sealing: maintain recommended gaps where specified; seal penetrations and fastener heads with compatible sealant, then touch up

  • Safety: verify locations of electrical and plumbing before driving screws
